The Colorado office of the AAA Auto Club (used to be the American Automobile Association, but everybody called it “Triple A”) maintains a website to help members find the best routes, rooms, and the like. The club also keeps track of the places that get the most inquiries.
In Colorado, the top five in September were Denver, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs, and Aspen. Out-state, the most inquiries went to Las Vegas, Orlando, San Diego, Minneapolis, and Boston.
Denver and Colorado Springs we understand, since they’re the state’s two largest cities. Grand Junction isn’t hard to find, although it can be tricky to navigate — especially if you come in on U.S. 50 when the city is geared for arrival on I-70. Aspen is a world-class resort. As for Glenwood, well, it probably deserves an award for “most bang for the marketing buck,” since it’s about the same size as Salida.
In the winter, Las Vegas, Orlando, and San Diego sound like sensible destinations for Coloradans — but in September? Maybe those folks were just planning their February getaways.
