THE PILGRIMAGE WRITING CONTEST

FIRST PRIZE IS $1000

Pilgrimage, a bi-annual literary magazine, invites Colorado Central readers to enter a writing contest. Here’s what the magazine has to say about its aspirations and rules:

“Our theme for this writing contest is transformation. We are interested in hearing about those experiences that inexorably alter the writer’s view of self and/or world. These experiences may take place in the context of inward or outward explorations. When genuine passion moves you, D.H. Lawrence once said, say what you’ve got to say, and say it hot. The best essay will tell a good story, tell the truth, and tell it hot.

“We’re looking for previously unpublished creative non-fiction up to 3000 words. Two double-spaced copies should be included along with a stamped self-addressed envelope. The $15 reading fee will include a one-year subscription to Pilgrimage. First place will receive $1000. Other essays may also be selected for publication in Pilgrimage.

“Essays will be judged by David Barstow, the former editor of Pilgrimage, and Peter Anderson, the current editor. Essays should be submitted with a cover sheet that includes name, address, e-mail and/or telephone contact, and the title of the essay. The writer’s name should not appear on the entered manuscript. Deadline: July 1, 2004 postmark. Announcement of the winner will appear on the Pilgrimage website on Sept 1, 2004, at: http://www.pilgrimagepress.org/index.html

“Please send entries to: Peter Anderson, Editor; Pilgrimage; Box 696; Crestone, CO 81131
