The Dunes will be listening
If you’ve got anything to say about the general management plan for the expanded Great Sand Dunes National Monument, or even if you’re just curious, you’re invited to some meetings in February.
According to a press release from the Dunes office, the management plan “will provide management direction for resource stewardship, visitor understanding and appreciation, partnerships, facilities, and general park operations for the next 15-20 years,” and “public input is critical in the planning stages.”
Also under examination is a related Wilderness Review, to determine which areas, if any, in the expanded monument should be protected as formal wilderness.
The meetings, all starting at 4 p.m., are scheduled for Feb. 13, in Room 124 at Trinidad State College in Alamosa; Feb. 14 in the Baca Grande POA Hall just west of Crestone; Feb. 20 in the metro area at a location to be announced; Feb. 21 at the Custer County Community Building in Westcliffe.
