Salida – August 2007 – Colorado Central Magazine
Mike Rosso, an occasional contributor to these pages, was excited: “I finally got a photo on the cover of a national magazine.”
It was a picture of a golfer to accompany an article in the June 11 edition of U.S. News & World Report about the 10 most affordable retirement towns in the United States.
Salida’s attractions to retirees include a nearby ski area, scenery in abundance, housing cheaper than Aspen’s, the hot springs pool, and abundant “inexpensive recreational opportunities for seniors.”
Other places on the list were Boone, N.C.; Dahlonega, Ga.; Fredericksburg, Texas; Kennebunk, Maine; Melbourne Beach, Fla.; Natchitoches, La.; Sandpoint, Idaho; Yucca Valley, Calif.; and Yuma, Ariz.
