The House Was Not What We Feared It Was
We were worried that it was yet another sign of the end of Central Colorado as we know it when someone told us that a Saguache home got eight pages in the June edition of the tony and upscale Colorado Homes & Lifestyles magazine.
But it turned out that the place belonged to some downhome friends who’d just finished a long and tasteful job of remodeling.
The featured home is also the studio and gallery for painter Marty Mitchell and potter Blair Meerfeld, a few houses south of the museum in Saguache.
“They did a great job with the photos,” Blair joked. “They got only the attractive stuff, and managed to keep everything else out of the frame.”
Blair and Marty didn’t make the cover — that went to actor Dennis Weaver’s famous “Earthship” near Ridgeway — but Marty noted that “it’s pretty impressive to be in the same magazine.”
Visitors are welcome during normal hours; there’s a sign in front for Meerfeld Stoneware.
