Nomadic Poetry – Lolling

Lolling

By Lawton Eddy

The whole routine of rise and shine
Has me wondering on habits and patterns
And locked-in ways
Wondering
If I must live in a different world
to undo it all…
this Ferris wheel of expectations
Or – could I simply step off
Do nothing in the ordinary way
Start a salon and lay myself
on the bank of a pond
merry friends in cotton blouses
goblets of grape juice, trays of cheese
Lolling about in smiling chatter
Unconscious of time and travails,
Perhaps this poem to read
My awkward wonder replaced with something
just out of reach
ahhh, serenity, that’s it
And if I would create this simple space
would I enter it
with lazy skirts and bracelets?
bare feet and unbound hair?
Or, would I fill it slow and sure
With one small obligation
One place I have to be
One meeting time
One calendar
One phone call
One desire to organize the day
After all…
Who would I bring to this reverie
but me
And would I be on time?
