Local Book – January 2001 – Colorado Central Magazine
We generally review books by local authors, but there are occasions when a review doesn’t make much sense, such as when the book is aimed at a specialized audience.
Such is the case for a new book by Leadville writer and librarian Sharon Chickering Moller (who contributes to this magazine from time to time).
Her book, Library Services to Spanish-Speaking Patrons: A Practical Guide, was published in November by Libraries Unlimited of Lakewood (www.lu.com).
According to the publisher’s press release, the book “helps librarians become more culturally sensitive and prepared to deal with the expectations and customs of the Hispanic community,” one of America’s fastest-growing ethnic groups.
So, congratulations, Sharon. And if you’re a librarian serving either the descendants of some of Colorado’s first residents or some of Colorado’s newest residents, here’s a book that should help insure that libraries remain facilities that can serve everyone.
