Your guess of 150 microbreweries in Colorado [“The New Colorado Spirit” in the April edition] is about 60 too high!
My guess is 88, plus another six-pack in various stages of planning, construction, or “opening soon.” Also there are two Colorado breweries not on the list of microbreweries, since they’re not micros: Coors-Molson in Golden, and Anheuser-Bush near Fort Collins. The latter is the only American-owned national brewer, since Coors has part Canadian ownership, and Miller is owned by South African Breweries, a British Company.
And there’s one brewery, New Belgium in Fort Collins, which is often listed as a micro, but isn’t, because it produces enough beer to be classified as a “regional brewery.”
Dang, all this talk about beer is making me thirsty!
