James V. Dexter – September 2000 – Colorado Central Magazine

In 1948, the Colorado Historical Society moved the Dexter Cabin to its current location next to the Healy House Museum at 912 Harrison Avenue, one block north of Leadville’s downtown business district. A bequest from Roland G. Parvin, the husband of James V. Dexter’s daughter Harriet, enabled the Historical Society to restore the cabin.

The Colorado Historical Society’s Healy House and Dexter Cabin museums are open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Labor Day, and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekends only through September. Admission prices, which include entry to the Healy House and the Dexter Cabin, are $3.50 for adults; $3.00 for seniors age 65 and over; $2.00 for children age 6-12. Colorado Historical Society members are admitted free. Off-season tours are available by advance appointment. For additional information, call 719-486-0487.
