Horse Slaughter – August 2007 – Colorado Central Magazine
Editors:
In her article about horse slaughter [June 2007] Sharon O’Toole has some very valid points about the waste of valuable horse meat and the existing regulations about humane handling of the horses at the slaughter house.
However she does not take into consideration how the horses are transported to the slaughter houses.
I am sure there are some operators that do their best to pick up and transport these horses in the best way possible but there are also many instances where the horses are hauled long distances and not treated humanely in any way. I certainly agree that the present method of disposal makes no sense at all, but I believe the whole process needs to be looked at.
