One of the bright spots of the winter is the annual Son-of-a-Gunn production in Gunnison.
It’s a satiric revue with a community cast to present a side-splitting parody of a Broadway production. This year’s presentation is “Annie Get Your Gunnison,” with humor based on extreme-skier Annie and her adventures among ranchers.
Performances are scheduled at the Gunnison Art Center on March 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, and 17, with the doors opening at 7 p.m. and the curtain rising at 7:30 p.m. There’s also a matinee at 4 p.m. on March 11 at the Crested Butte Center for the Arts.
Tickets are $10 for adults, and you can get them and information at 970-641-4029.
We haven’t seen this production, but we’ve seen earlier ones, and they’re the best (and maybe only) reason we’ve ever found to drive over Monarch Pass in March. Granted, many of the jokes may have special meaning in Gunnison, but little mountain towns have sufficient characteristics in common so that we didn’t have any trouble finding a lot to laugh about.
