Growing the wrong plants in your house can be a form of child abuse in Park County.
Stuart Sorensen of Fairplay was found guilty in district court of felony cultivation of marijuana, as well as the petty offenses of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
But his indoor growing room was next to one of his children’s bedrooms, so he was also charged with, and convicted of, two counts of child abuse. That came after the prosecuting attorney told the jury that Sorensen was growing hemp for profit and using the proceeds to support his family. Sorensen is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 7.
