The FBI in May passed the word that al-Qaeda might be thinking of setting forests ablaze in the West.
In Aspen, Pitkin County Sheriff Bob Braudis says that’s just one threat among many to forests. He didn’t sound particularly worried in a story in Denver’s Rocky Mountain News (July 24). Nor did Lynn Young, spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service in Colorado and portions of adjoining states.
“You can only start a small fire and hope that it gets large,” said Young. “It’s really not a very sure thing.”
