Wolfwood, a state-licensed, non-profit animal refuge based in Ignacio, CO, brought some of its residents to Salida in August as part of an education and fund-raising tour of the state.
The refuge takes in unwanted and homeless “high-content” wolf and dog crosses, which are not generally suitable as domestic pets. There are currently over 70 wolves and wolf/dogs housed at the refuge with volunteers providing care and nurturing. At-risk youth are also given a chance to work with the animals in hopes of dispelling fears and opening the way for healthy relationships with wolves and wolf/dogs.
