Local arts – April 2000 – Colorado Central Magazine
One of our favorite annual late-winter events, the Sonofagunn in Gunnison, didn’t happen this year.
Sonofagunn is a satiric musical comedy, based on familiar works like “Brigadoon” and “Atlas Shrugged,” filled with clever local twists that are side-splitting even if you don’t live there.
We inquired of George Sibley, a frequent participant in those as well as a contributor here, and he explained that two factors conspired to postpone this year’s production.
One is that the Gunnison Valley Arts Center, which hosts the event, got a new director in mid-February, which meant major administrative challenges for a mid-March production.
The other is that this summer marks the 100th anniversary of Cattlemen’s Days in Gunnison, and a Sunofagunn in July seemed like a good way to augment such a special event.
So, there will be a Sunofagunn this year, but it won’t happen until the snow has melted in Gunnison.
