Poem: Midnight Prayer

I’m praying to you for some guidance tonight

The clock is so loud

Crying out

It’s not that I don’t believe

I just don’t know anymore

Be present many have said

But my heart is pulling me in a direction

I can’t figure out

Back but mainly forward

To anywhere but here

Helplessly twisted this way and that

My fingers skate along the keyboard

Wishing I could just talk to you

To hear your voice

You know what I need

No more signs please

I need a ship

Maybe a plane

Come take me away

I can hardly breathe

All of this you must know

A wildflower of any kind

This one can’t grow

A full moon can’t shine

Lying there and blending into its black sky

I can’t fight anymore

But I can’t relax

Desiring nothing but a few cold beers right now

Wash the pain and indecision away

I pray to you tonight for some sort of light

When the morning comes

I give it all to you
