If you’re the type of person who requires a plethora of menu choices and all types of cuisine – the East West Grill is the place for you. This is a picky person’s paradise, especially if you’re looking for reasonably priced ethnic fare, which is available as fresh salads, wraps, pastas, all-American hamburgers or rice bowls with brown or white rice and Japanese bento boxes.

East West Grill is a family-owned and operated business by brothers Chuck and Janes Hsu, who also own the neighboring Hunans and Quiznos restaurants and the Blue Fox Grill at the Alamosa golf course. All the restaurants maintain a steady business with the college students, hospital staff and tourists who choose their favorite place to eat based on food preferences.

Visit the East West Grill if you’re in the mood for Italian, Thai, Japanese, Korean or American fare. After our group of five had ordered at the counter and then sat in the casual, yet inviting dining area, we were served dishes that ran the spectrum of tastes. The meals served included salmon with fried Udon noodles “nicely spiced and fresh,” the Baja Chicken Wrap – “chicken salad in a tortilla,” a “good sized” hamburger and tasty wedge fries, the Tonkatsu Bento – a fried Japanese pork cutlet, sesame vinaigrette salad, two chicken gyoza, streamed fresh veggies and choice of rice, and the Masman Curry chicken, which had a nice “bite” to it.

The East West Grill’s colorful and welcoming décor, complete with creative lighting, has the inviting feel of a coffee house and café. Starbucks coffee and the complete gamut of espresso drinks are served, as well as fresh fruit smoothies and baked goods. Breakfast with a variety of menu choices is served daily. There is usually a daily special – in this case it was “Fish and Chips” in honor of a Friday night during Lent. Jan Larmon, shift supervisor, recommends the homemade green chili and is a stickler for presenting plates that are appealing to the eye as well as the palate. Desserts – pies, cheesecake, and triple layer chocolate cake – are served with homemade heavy whipped cream. Beer and wine are also available.

As return customers, we had an idea of what to expect in the friendly service and attractive food presentation – and have yet to be disappointed.
